Frequently asked questions
Remember, there really are some stupid questions out there, but not any of these.
What is your turn around time?
Turn around times can vary, depending on the season and present work-load. But in general, most design projects are completed within 2 weeks. Website projects may take a little longer, depending on what is needed and how clear your vision is at the beginning.
Promotional items will also vary depending on quantities of items ordered, time of year and the work-load of the vendor supplying the items. The more time you give yourself when ordering promotional items, the less expensive your project will be. All vendors have production schedules and if your project needs to be pushed to the front of the line, there will always be a rush charge.
Do you own my artwork or do I?
Once your project is completed and paid for, in full, YOU own your artwork. All projects, unless otherwise agreed upon at the start, are done on a work for hire basis, and D2 Design Lab does not claim ownership of your completed work.
Which formats do I receive my files in?
Once your project is completed and paid for in full, we will provide you your art in any format that you need. And if later on you find out that you need it in a new format, we are happy to send it to you, in that format as well. We have a habit of never throwing anything away, so your art will always be ready and waiting for you in the future.
Can we work together even if I am not in your area?
Don't you just love the internet?!! We do too, because it allows us to work with people all over the world. Whether it's a design project, a website or a promotional campaign, we will be there with you, in digital spirit, the whole way. Email, FTP, telephone, Skype. These are the skills that pay the bills people and we use 'em all.
Do I supply photography / art or art ideas I'd like to be used?
If you have something specific in mind, by all means, send it over. Even if it is just to get us talking about the overall direction you want to go in. The key to a successful project is good communication. The more specific you can be regarding your project, the quicker we will get there and the better it will look. Also, please send any fonts that you may have used in your design ideas, so that we are on the same page.
What types of files do I need to send to you to get started, if any.
The higher the resolution, the better! Jpeg, Tiff, PNG, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop or PDF all work great. Please note, that a jpeg placed and saved in an Illustrator file, is still really a jpeg and is not considered vector art. A word document with a placed image isn't the ideal situation, but it might work. We say "might" because, you just never know when it comes to Word.
Will I be able I use my art work for t-shirts, embroidery, print and web?
Yes and maybe. We have many many years of experience in printed apparel and can convert any design into art that can be printed or embroidered. We say maybe because, depending on the design, some elements and colors may need to be altered or eliminated in order to be printed or embroidered cleanly and successfully, and not look like a bunch of monkeys with wiffel bats tried to print your shirts. Those dern monkeys!
What if I only need minor changes to my existing logo or artwork?
No problem at all. We are happy to help with any of your design and promotional needs. If you just need your logo updated, need business cards or a sales brochure, we've got you covered.
How do I make sure I get the exact color I'm thinking of?
The absolute best way to ensure color matching is to use PMS colors for reference. No, we're not talking about an angry set of crayons, we are referring to the Pantone Matching System. This is a tried and true system and sure beats trying to figure out what "teal" color to use. The blue one, or the green one??
Do I manage my own website after you create it, or do you handle that?
When we design your website, we will also manage the site for you. So, when you need to change some sales copy or add a new date to your events page, we will keep your site up to speed in a timely manner at no additional cost to you. If you need to have more extensive updates like adding a new page or changing the overall look of your site, from the blueish "teal" to the greenish "teal", that would be considered a new design project and would have a cost to you.
What type of payment do you accept?
Our preferred method of payment is check by mail. We can accept credit cards thru PayPal if that is what you need, but there will be an additional 3% added to cover PayPal costs. Now, don't you prefer check by mail too?
